A day after a pan-masala spitting incident inside the Uttar Pradesh Assembly sparked outrage, Speaker Satish Mahana has imposed a strict ban on the consumption of pan-masala and gutka within the Vidhan Sabha premises. Violators will face a ₹1,000 fine, along with disciplinary action as per the House rules.
Announcing the decision, Mahana stated, "The consumption of pan-masala and gutka is hereby prohibited on Vidhan Sabha premises, with immediate effect. If any individual consumes these substances, a fine of ₹1,000 will be imposed, and necessary action will be taken against them."

The ban comes after legislators were left embarrassed when stains from pan-masala spitting were spotted inside the Assembly, triggering demands for stricter hygiene measures. The Speaker's directive aims to uphold the dignity of the House and prevent similar incidents in the future.
