In a significant political development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu late Monday evening, stepping down from the second-highest constitutional office in India due to medical reasons. His resignation takes immediate effect under Article 67(a) of the Constitution of India.

In a detailed and heartfelt resignation letter, Dhankhar wrote that he was stepping down to prioritise his health and follow medical advice. “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution,” the letter stated.

Expressing gratitude for his time in office, Dhankhar acknowledged the support he received from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He praised the working relationship with the President as “soothing and wonderful” and described the Prime Minister’s guidance as “invaluable.”

He also extended his thanks to the Council of Ministers and Members of Parliament, saying he would forever cherish the “warmth, trust, and affection” they had shown him. Dhankhar remarked that the experience had enriched his understanding of India’s democratic values and governance.

Reflecting on his nearly three-year tenure since assuming office in August 2022, Dhankhar described it as a privilege to witness India’s rapid economic and developmental strides. “It has been a privilege and satisfaction to witness and partake in India's remarkable economic progress and unprecedented exponential development,” he wrote.

“As I leave this esteemed office, I am filled with pride in Bharat's global rise and phenomenal achievements and hold unwavering confidence in her brilliant future,” he concluded.
