In a statement following an all-party meeting convened by the government on Thursday to discuss Operation Sindoor, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi made strong demands to curb the influence of terrorist groups operating from Pakistan.
Owaisi, who attended the meeting, emphasized the need for a global campaign against The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the notorious terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba. "I have complimented our armed forces and the government for Operation Sindoor, but I also suggested that we should run a global campaign against The Resistance Front (TRF)," Owaisi said after the meeting. He also urged the Indian government to exert pressure on the United States to designate TRF as a terrorist organization.
Furthermore, Owaisi called for measures to target Pakistan's struggling economy by advocating for the country’s reentry into the FATF (Financial Action Task Force) grey list. Pakistan was removed from the FATF’s grey list in 2022 after four years, and Owaisi believes that renewed pressure could be a strategic way to curb Pakistan’s role in financing terrorism.
"I also suggested that the government should request the USA to designate it (TRF) as a terrorist organisation. We should also make efforts to grey-list Pakistan in FATF," Owaisi added, highlighting the urgency of international cooperation to combat terror financing.
Meanwhile, Congress party chief Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the opposition's support for the government’s actions and operations against terrorism. "In the meeting, we heard what they (Centre) had to say. They also said that certain confidential information cannot be shared outside. We told them that we are all with the government," Kharge stated.
