Political circles in the United States were shaken on Wednesday after Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while addressing students at Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old, known for his close ties to former President Donald Trump, was struck in the neck during a live interaction and died on the spot.

The shocking incident unfolded at the Sorensen Center courtyard, where Kirk was taking questions from students beneath a white tent carrying slogans such as “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.” Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the gunshot rang out mid-discussion, sending panic across the gathering. Disturbing footage from the event shows Kirk clutching his neck as bystanders scream and flee.

President Trump confirmed Kirk’s death through Truth Social, praising him as “Great, and even Legendary,” and adding, “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.” He later urged Americans to pray for Kirk, calling him “a great guy from top to bottom.”

Local authorities have launched a manhunt for the attacker, who remains at large. While one person was briefly detained on campus, Orem Mayor David Young clarified that the individual was not linked to the shooting. Investigators have yet to identify a motive.

Ironically, Kirk’s final moments were spent debating the issue of mass shootings in America. Just before the attack, he had been asked about gun violence and replied with controversial remarks on transgender Americans and gang-related crimes.

Kirk’s scheduled talk had already triggered controversy in Utah, with nearly 1,000 people signing a petition to cancel the event over his polarizing views. Still, the university had defended the invitation, emphasizing its commitment to free speech and debate.
