Just hours after being re-elected for a record 13th time as the National President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), senior leader Lalu Prasad Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Central Government, raising serious concerns over India's recent ceasefire agreement with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir.
Taking to social media platform X, Lalu Yadav posted a sharp critique, alleging that the ceasefire decision was made under foreign pressure, particularly from US President Donald Trump, who had earlier claimed credit for facilitating the understanding between India and Pakistan.
"Why was a ceasefire carried out at the behest of the US President?" Lalu questioned in his post, further asking, “Why has the government failed to catch the terrorists responsible for killing 26 innocent people in Pahalgam?”
The veteran leader did not stop at words alone. In a bold political move, he also shared a morphed image showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi seated in Donald Trump’s lap, while other global leaders bowed before the US President — a symbolic attack on what Lalu described as the Modi government's weak foreign policy stance.
Background of the Conflict
The controversy stems from the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians and is believed to have been carried out by militants backed by elements from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In response, Indian forces initiated ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terror infrastructure across the Line of Control. The operation reportedly destroyed at least nine terror camps and marked a sharp rise in military escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations.
However, after about two weeks of heightened tensions, a ceasefire was announced. According to reports, Pakistan pushed for diplomatic talks, and President Trump publicly claimed credit for brokering peace between the two sides.
Opposition’s Challenge and Political Impact
Lalu Yadav’s comments have added new fuel to the ongoing political narrative, especially as the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach. Opposition parties have seized the moment to accuse the Modi government of compromising national security and surrendering to external influence.
So far, the Central Government has not officially responded to Lalu’s allegations. However, political analysts believe this attack could spark a renewed and intensified debate between the NDA and the Opposition alliance, potentially shaping election campaign themes in the coming months.
