Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Ritlal Yadav on Thursday surrendered before the Danapur Court, days after the police raided his residence and other locations in connection with serious allegations of document forgery, extortion, and issuing death threats. The court has remanded Yadav to 14 days of judicial custody.
The surrender comes after an FIR was lodged against the legislator and his associates. On April 11, police carried out searches at 11 premises linked to him following a complaint filed by a local builder.
Dismissing the allegations as baseless, Yadav claimed there was a larger conspiracy to eliminate him. "Attempts to kill me have been made for several months now... AK-47 was made available to my rival by some officials to facilitate him. He was asked to kill me and told no case would be registered against him," he alleged.
The MLA further said that he had to increase the number of his personal bodyguards for his safety. "Police officials couldn’t stand this. They told me I couldn’t have private guards without permission. Still, I continued with those guards… Later I came to know that the process of my arrest had begun, so I removed my guards. People then started visiting my village. This happened for months. My entire village lived in fear,” he added.
He alleged that the raid on his house was part of a conspiracy hatched by the administration in collusion with the complainant. “The day my house was raided, the administration conspired to kill me… The biggest threat to my life is between going to jail and appearing before court. I can be killed here as well,” said Yadav, expressing concern for his safety. He also stated he would not seek bail until he was sure his life could be protected.
The complaint against Yadav includes charges of criminal conspiracy, extortion, document forgery, and issuing life threats. Police officials have not responded yet to the MLA’s serious counter-allegations.
