A political storm erupted in Bihar on Wednesday night after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) accused the district administration of secretly moving Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) into the Vajra Griha counting centre in Sasaram, Rohtas district, without any official notice or transparency.
According to reports, RJD workers gathered in large numbers outside the Takiya Market Committee premises—where the counting centre is located—demanding an immediate clarification from Bihar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vinod Singh Gunjiyal and the Election Commission of India (ECI). The protest continued late into the night, with party members raising slogans and blocking access roads near the site.
The RJD also shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that CCTV feeds at the counting centre were turned off around 2 PM, coinciding with the arrival of a truck “loaded with boxes” suspected to be EVMs. In a strongly worded post, the party wrote, “Why were the EVMs brought in secrecy? Why was the CCTV feed switched off? Why were truck drivers allowed to leave without questioning? We demand the release of full CCTV footage and an official explanation from the Election Commission.”
Party leaders further warned that if transparency was not ensured, thousands of supporters would march to polling centres across Bihar to “stop vote theft.”
The Election Commission has yet to issue a formal statement addressing the allegations. However, officials from the Rohtas district administration have reportedly denied any wrongdoing, stating that the movement of voting machines was part of “routine logistics and verification.”
