In a significant political shift, Senior Haryana Congress leader Kiran Choudhry and her daughter, Shruti Chaudhary, have resigned from the Congress party, alleging that the state unit is being managed like a "personal fiefdom," indirectly pointing to Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
In her resignation letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Kiran Choudhry expressed her frustration, stating, "It is unfortunate that the Congress Party in Haryana is run as a personal fiefdom, leaving no room for genuine voices like mine, who have been systematically stifled, humiliated, and conspired against. This has severely hindered my efforts to represent our people and uphold the values I believe in."
Kiran Choudhry also reaffirmed her commitment to the legacy of her late father-in-law, former Haryana Chief Minister Choudhary Bansi Lal. On X (formerly Twitter), she posted, "My priority will always be to spread the values and ideology of Choudhary Bansi Lal in Haryana and ensure honest development for the region and the state."
Reports suggest that Kiran Choudhry was particularly upset over her daughter Shruti being denied a ticket from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The Congress had instead fielded sitting MLA and Hooda loyalist Rao Dan Singh, who subsequently lost to BJP's Dharambir Singh.
Shruti Chaudhry echoed her mother's sentiments, accusing the Haryana Congress of being "centered around one person," who has compromised the party's interests for personal gain. She stated, "It is time for me to move on so that I may continue to uphold the interests of my people and the values I stand for."
Shruti, a former MP and working president of the Haryana Congress, along with Kiran Choudhry, confirmed their decision to join the BJP. Kiran Choudhry, who is also a sitting MLA, told PTI, "Shruti and I will be joining the BJP in Delhi on Wednesday."
