Political tempers flared in Maharashtra after an altercation between two groups within the Vidhan Bhavan premises turned into a full-blown controversy. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has strongly condemned the government, alleging that it is shielding those who allegedly attempted to assault NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Jitendra Awhad, while punishing Awhad himself for protesting.

In a pointed remark, Sanjay Raut said, "The goons of the MLA who tried to attack Jitendra Awhad actually wanted to kill him. No action was taken against them, but when Jitendra Awhad protested, the Home Ministry took action against him instead."

The clash reportedly occurred inside the premises of the state assembly complex, raising serious concerns about law and order in a place considered the seat of democracy. Raut’s statement reflects growing discontent among opposition leaders, who claim the state government is using selective action to muzzle dissenting voices.
