The United States has called for a "responsible resolution" between India and Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 people on April 22. The US State Department emphasized its commitment to supporting India during the rising tensions between the two nations.

In an official statement on Sunday, the State Department revealed that the US government has been in close communication with both India and Pakistan at multiple levels. "This is an evolving situation, and we are monitoring developments closely," said a State Department spokesperson. The spokesperson urged both governments to work towards a peaceful and responsible resolution, despite the escalating situation after the deadly attack.

Following the terror attack, which targeted mostly tourists in the picturesque Baisaran meadow, India launched a diplomatic offensive against Pakistan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. India has also vowed to identify and punish the terrorists and conspirators behind the attack.

On the other hand, Pakistan has responded with retaliatory actions, calling for an independent investigation into the attack and making threats against India. In light of the heightened tensions, the US has reiterated its stance of supporting India while urging both sides to de-escalate the situation.

A US State Department spokesperson further expressed America's strong condemnation of the attack, affirming that Washington stands with India in its time of crisis. This sentiment was echoed by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance in their previous statements.

Although Pakistan remains a strategic partner to the United States, its importance has been overshadowed by growing concerns over China’s influence in Asia. With the 2021 American withdrawal from Afghanistan, Pakistan's role in the region has diminished in the eyes of the US, making its relationship with India increasingly vital.
