Polling in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 recorded a voter turnout of 61.11 per cent till 1 PM across 142 constituencies, according to the Election Commission of India, indicating a strong and steady voter response as the state moves through another crucial round of voting.

The turnout reflects continued enthusiasm among voters, with polling stations witnessing active participation throughout the day amid tight security arrangements. Election authorities are closely monitoring the voting process as the second phase covers key constituencies in one of the most closely watched Assembly elections in the country.

The current turnout follows the first phase held on April 23, which registered an impressive 93 per cent voter turnout, underlining strong electoral participation across the state and setting the tone for an intense multi-phase contest.

Amid the ongoing polling, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the turnout showed that voters were willing to participate despite concerns over poll-related violence.

He said the large-scale deployment of Central Forces had increased public confidence and helped ensure that voters could reach polling booths without fear.

According to Chowdhury, the visible presence of security personnel has reassured the public and encouraged people to exercise their democratic rights in significant numbers.

The steady turnout in the second phase is being seen as an important indicator of voter engagement, with officials expected to release revised polling percentages as the day progresses.

Authorities have maintained that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure peaceful and orderly voting across all 142 constituencies, while political parties continue to keep a close watch on voter turnout patterns in this decisive phase of the election.
