AIMIM chief and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns over the delay in conducting a caste census, following reports that an RSS meeting in Kerala discussed the matter.
Addressing the issue in a press statement, Owaisi questioned the government's stance on the census and demanded clear timelines for its execution. “There was an RSS meeting in Kerala, in that meeting too they had talked about conducting a caste census. We want to know when the government will start the census and when will it be completed and when will its data be presented to the country...” Owaisi said.
The issue of a caste-based census has been a subject of ongoing debate in Indian politics. Several political parties, especially in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, have advocated for a caste census to ensure better representation of backward communities in the country’s socio-economic framework. Owaisi’s remarks come as the government remains tight-lipped about the matter, despite growing calls for transparency and action.
