Shiv Sena-UBT MP Sanjay Raut stirred controversy on Thursday by questioning the longevity of the BJP-led Union government. Speaking at a press conference, Raut expressed doubts about whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi?s government would survive beyond 2026, predicting significant political instability that could also impact Maharashtra.
?I doubt the Union government will survive after 2026. In my view, Modi will not complete his term. Once the central government becomes unsettled, Maharashtra will inevitably face consequences,? Raut remarked.
The Shiv Sena-UBT leader?s comments came amidst speculation about party member Rajan Salvi?s possible exit. Raut claimed that those leaving the party were motivated by fear of arrest or pressure from investigative agencies, rather than ideological differences.
?I spoke to Rajan Salvi, who is a bit upset after his election loss. However, many who are leaving the party are doing so out of fear of arrest and investigative agencies. We are focused on building a party of fearless people who are not intimidated by government pressure,? Raut said.
Raut added that political defeat is a part of life and that a true ?Shiv Sainik? does not fear failure. ?Those who fear defeat or pressure tactics are not fit to be called Shiv Sainiks. Once the Union government falls, this climate of fear will end, and we are preparing to stand strong against any wrongdoing,? he said.
