Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport shortly after landing from Berlin, Germany, in connection with an obscene video case. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka government detained Revanna upon his arrival and took him directly to the CID office in Bengaluru.
Revanna faces serious allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman who worked in his household. His return to India, nearly a month after leaving the country on a diplomatic passport, has intensified the investigation.
"MEA has initiated action under provisions in the Passport Act 1967 for revocation of the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna. A show cause notice was issued to the passport holder on May 23, giving him 10 working days to respond to our notice," stated Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal to ANI.
Security was heightened outside the CID office in anticipation of Revanna's arrival, with barricades set up to manage the situation. The SIT confiscated two of Revanna?s check-in bags for further examination.
In a self-made video released on May 27, Revanna claimed that his trip was pre-planned and there were no charges against him during the April 26 general elections. He also suggested that the case against him was politically motivated, saying, "I will appear before the SIT on May 31 for questioning? This is a political conspiracy as I was growing in politics."
Revanna?s anticipatory bail plea, filed on May 29, remains pending. This move followed the arrest of two prime accused, Naveen Gowda and Chetan Gowda, who allegedly distributed pen drives containing incriminating videos of Revanna.
Police sources revealed that the two were detained when they appeared before the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. "The accused were arrested when they appeared before the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. Arrested Chetan Gowda and Naveen Gowda allegedly distributed pen drives containing videos of Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulting women," police officials confirmed to ANI.
