New Delhi was placed under heightened security on Monday morning after alarming bomb threat emails were sent to Parliament and several schools across the national capital, triggering panic among parents, students, and authorities.
According to officials, the threat messages warned of a possible explosion at Parliament later this week, prompting immediate action from central security agencies. The emails reportedly contained provocative language and extremist slogans, raising serious concerns about public safety and national security. Law enforcement agencies treated the threat as high-risk and began verification and tracking of the email sources.
Almost simultaneously, at least nine schools in different parts of Delhi received similar threat messages within a short time window during the morning hours. As soon as school authorities alerted the police, emergency protocols were activated. Teams from Delhi Police, the Fire Department, and Bomb Disposal Squads were rushed to the campuses mentioned in the emails.
As a precautionary measure, students and staff were evacuated from school buildings and shifted to safe locations while thorough anti-sabotage checks were conducted. Several anxious parents rushed to schools after receiving alerts from school administrations, leading to brief traffic congestion in some areas.
Schools in South Delhi, central zones, and parts of North-West Delhi were among those affected. Security agencies carried out detailed inspections of classrooms, playgrounds, hostels, and surrounding areas. No suspicious object was found during the initial searches, but investigations are still ongoing.
Senior police officials said cyber teams are analysing the emails to identify their origin and determine whether the threats are hoaxes or part of a coordinated attempt to create fear. Officials also confirmed that additional security layers have been deployed around sensitive locations, including Parliament House, government buildings, and major public spaces.
This is not the first such incident in recent weeks. Delhi and nearby regions have witnessed a spate of bomb threat emails targeting educational institutions, forcing repeated evacuations and security drills. Authorities believe these incidents may be aimed at spreading panic rather than carrying out real attacks, but have stressed that no threat will be taken lightly.
Meanwhile, parents’ groups and school managements have urged the government to take strong action against those behind such threats, calling them irresponsible and traumatic for children.
