A bomb scare disrupted operations at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday morning after a threat note was discovered on board an IndiGo flight scheduled to depart for Shillong.
According to airport authorities, IndiGo flight 6E3074 was preparing for take-off at 9:15 am when crew members, during routine boarding checks, found a handwritten message inside the aircraft’s lavatory claiming that a bomb had been placed on the flight. The discovery triggered immediate security protocols.
All passengers were promptly asked to disembark, and the aircraft was moved to a designated isolation bay within the airport premises. The Kolkata Airport Director confirmed that a detailed security sweep was initiated soon after the threat came to light. Bomb detection teams and security personnel began a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft.
Officials said the checking process is ongoing, and further updates will be provided after the examination is completed. So far, no confirmation has been given regarding the authenticity of the threat.
The incident follows a similar episode last month involving another IndiGo service. On January 23, flight 6E 2608 operating from Delhi to Pune received a bomb threat after landing at Pune Airport. In that case, a handwritten note was also found inside the aircraft’s lavatory.
The Pune-bound aircraft landed safely, and passengers were deboarded without incident. Authorities shifted the plane to an isolation area after Air Traffic Control relayed the threat information. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out a thorough inspection. No suspicious object was found, and the aircraft was later cleared for normal operations.
