The Election Commission on Tuesday released the draft electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, revealing a significant reshaping of the state’s voter database. The revision has resulted in the removal of over 2.89 crore names from the voter list, marking one of the largest roll updates in recent years.

Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, said the deletions were carried out after extensive verification. According to officials, nearly 2.17 crore voters were removed due to permanent migration, while records showed that over 46 lakh registered voters had passed away. In addition, around 25.47 lakh names were found to be either duplicated or untraceable during the verification process.

The publication of the draft roll was originally planned for December 31 but was rescheduled under a revised timeline. With the draft now available, the Election Commission has opened a window for citizens to raise claims and objections.

The process for submitting claims and objections will remain open from January 6 to February 6, 2026. During this period, voters can seek corrections, inclusion of names, or removal of incorrect entries. Officials confirmed that all enumeration forms collected during the revision drive have already been digitised.

Navdeep Rinwa stated that decisions on claims and objections will be taken during the notice and verification phase, which will continue until February 27, 2026. Following this, the final electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh is scheduled to be published on March 6, 2026.
