Eight years after the Unnao rape case sent shockwaves across the country, Ishita Sengar, the younger daughter of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, has publicly spoken about the emotional toll the case has taken on her life. In a deeply personal message shared on social media, Ishita said years of silence, fear and abuse have left her mentally exhausted, forcing her to finally speak out.

In her open letter, Ishita wrote that she had carried her pain quietly for nearly a decade, hoping time would ease the trauma. Instead, she said the constant scrutiny and online harassment only worsened her mental health. She described feeling unsafe, anxious and emotionally drained, adding that her faith in people and the system has slowly eroded.

Ishita alleged that she has been subjected to relentless abuse on social media platforms, where strangers repeatedly targeted her with hateful and violent messages. According to her, some users went as far as telling her she deserved to be raped or killed. She said such comments shattered her sense of security and left lasting psychological scars.

Her letter surfaced amid fresh legal developments in the long-running case. Recently, the Supreme Court intervened to halt a Delhi High Court order that had suspended the life sentence awarded to her father. The apex court stayed the order and made it clear that Kuldeep Singh Sengar would remain in prison, preventing his release for now.

Kuldeep Singh Sengar, once a powerful political figure from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, is serving a life term after being convicted in the rape case that exposed serious failures in governance, policing and political accountability. The case had triggered nationwide outrage and became a symbol of how power can be misused to silence victims.
