Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday launched a sharp attack over a tragic fire incident that claimed nine lives, alleging serious lapses in emergency response and accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of creating unrest at the site.
Kejriwal claimed that when the fire brigade reached the spot, its ladders were not functioning properly, suggesting that timely action could have saved lives. He said the delay in response raises serious concerns about preparedness and accountability in emergency services.
Visiting the bereaved family, Kejriwal expressed grief over the loss and said the affected family is going through unimaginable pain after losing multiple members in the tragedy. However, he alleged that instead of offering support, BJP workers and leaders created chaos at the location.
He accused them of indulging in “hooliganism” and claimed that people were being prevented from meeting the grieving family. He further alleged that individuals present at the site were being threatened, calling the situation “very sad” and deeply disturbing.
The incident has triggered a political confrontation, with serious questions being raised over both the handling of the emergency response and the atmosphere at the tragedy site.
