Maharashtra: Fresh Clash Erupts In Gevrai During Municipal Elections; Stone-Pelting Outside BJP Leader’s House

Tension gripped Gevrai town in Maharashtra’s Beed district on Tuesday morning after a heated confrontation between two rival political groups escalated into violence during the municipal council elections. The clash, which began at a polling booth, soon spiraled into stone-pelting outside the residence of a senior BJP leader, prompting police intervention.

According to officials, the incident unfolded near a polling station in Ward No. 10, where supporters of local NCP MLA Vijaysinh Pandit and BJP leader and former MLA Laxman Pawar got into an argument that quickly intensified. Though the BJP and the Ajit Pawar–led NCP are alliance partners in the state government, both parties are contesting against each other in Gevrai, creating heightened political friction on polling day.

What began as a verbal altercation escalated as workers from both factions marched toward Pawar’s residence. Soon after, stone-pelting broke out, damaging the windshields of several vehicles parked outside the BJP leader’s home, a senior police official said.

To bring the situation under control, police resorted to lathi-charge at multiple locations. Voting was briefly disrupted but later resumed without further incident, authorities confirmed.

Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat said the situation has now stabilised. “The environment is peaceful at present. We acted promptly to disperse the crowds and ensure that polling continues smoothly,” he stated.
