The Delhi Police have registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) after slogans urging a boycott of the upcoming elections were found written on walls across the Delhi University campus area. This development comes as the national capital prepares for the Lok Sabha elections on May 25 (Saturday), with all seven of its seats set to poll in the penultimate phase.
The Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (BSCEM), a self-proclaimed youth organization, has claimed responsibility for the slogans, including "Ek hi raasta Naxalbari," which were found on the walls. BSCEM even posted photos of the slogans on its Instagram page.
During their morning patrol on Thursday, police officers noticed the defacement. "Accordingly, two FIRs under the Defacement Act have been registered," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Kumar Meena.
In a separate incident on the same day, two colleges affiliated with Delhi University received anonymous bomb threats, which were later determined to be false alarms. According to officials, the Delhi Fire Service received calls threatening explosions at Lady Shri Ram College and Sri Venkateswara College.
"We received an anonymous call, threatening bomb strikes at Delhi's Lady Shri Ram College and Sri Venkateswara College. Fire tenders and a Delhi Police team are at the spot," a Delhi Fire Service official stated. Upon investigation, the threats were confirmed to be hoaxes.
"Some calls were received threatening explosions in two DU colleges. However, these calls have now been determined as bogus. There is nothing to worry about," a Delhi Police officer reassured the public.
