From Monday, Lok Sabha Set For Smooth Sailing As Government And Opposition Agree On Operation Sindoor Debate

Starting Monday, the Lok Sabha is expected to resume normal functioning after a consensus was reached between the government and the opposition during an all-party meeting. The Monsoon Session, which was stalled by protests over various issues, will now see dedicated discussions, including a high-voltage debate on "Operation Sindoor."

According to an India Today report, Speaker Om Birla chaired the all-party meeting, where he urged all political parties to engage in meaningful discussions while maintaining parliamentary decorum. The first five days of the session had witnessed repeated adjournments and no significant legislative business.

The sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday had caused a momentary flutter in political circles. However, opposition parties soon shifted focus back to core issues, particularly the alleged manipulation of electoral rolls in Bihar and the demand for an in-depth discussion on Operation Sindoor—the military operation conducted in May following the Pahalgam terror attack.

The government has agreed to allocate 16 hours in both Houses for a special discussion on Operation Sindoor. While the operation itself is being touted as a success, opposition parties are likely to raise pointed questions over U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims that he played a role in mediating the ceasefire. Trump had publicly stated that he threatened Pakistan with trade sanctions, compelling it to back off. India, however, has officially denied any third-party intervention, asserting that the ceasefire was negotiated directly between New Delhi and Islamabad.

The voter list revision controversy in Bihar is also expected to remain a flashpoint during the session, although it was not part of the immediate agreement.
