Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, wasted no time in responding to a shocking gang-rape case that has rocked the city. Upon arrival on Friday, he was immediately briefed by the Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, and District Magistrate about the harrowing incident. PM Modi instructed authorities to ensure the "strictest possible action" against the accused and to bolster mechanisms to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.

The case involves the alleged gang-rape of a young girl, who, according to police, was lured, abducted, and repeatedly raped by 23 individuals over a period of seven days. She was found in an unconscious state on April 4. So far, nine accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody by the District and Sessions Court, while efforts are underway to nab the remaining culprits. The FIR is registered at the Lalpur Pandeypur police station under stringent legal sections.

As outrage over the crime continues, Prime Minister Modi’s prompt directive is being seen as a stern message against crimes targeting women. His stance was further reinforced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who reviewed preparations at the venue of the PM’s public address and vowed that “no one involved in this heinous crime will be spared.”

Despite the grim backdrop, PM Modi’s visit also marked a massive infrastructure push for the region. He laid the foundation stone for key connectivity projects, including a road bridge linking the Varanasi Ring Road with Sarnath, flyovers at Bhikharipur and Manduadih crossings, and a major highway underpass near Varanasi International Airport. The total cost of these projects is estimated at over ₹980 crore.

In addition, the Prime Minister inaugurated two 400 KV and one 220 KV transmission substations across Jaunpur, Chandauli, and Ghazipur districts—investments totalling over ₹1,045 crore. These projects aim to enhance power supply reliability and support regional economic development.
