Hadi Murder Case: Family Accuses Interim Govt Of Negligence and Political Motive

The family of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, a young political activist killed during an election campaign in Dhaka, has directly blamed the Mohammad Yunus–led interim government for failing to ensure his security, intensifying political tensions ahead of Bangladesh’s general elections.

Speaking to the media, Sharif’s brother, Sharif Omar bin Hadi, said the responsibility for the killing rests with the authorities in power at the time of the incident. He argued that the administration cannot distance itself from accountability when a political worker is murdered in the middle of an active campaign.

Omar alleged that the killing was not an isolated act of violence but part of a larger attempt to disrupt the democratic process. According to him, his brother was deeply involved in election preparations, and his death was aimed at creating fear and instability ahead of the polls.

He further accused the government of politicising the murder to influence public opinion. “Those who failed to protect him are now using his death for political gain,” Omar claimed, warning that such actions could undermine the credibility of the upcoming elections.

Sharif Osman bin Hadi, 32, was attacked by unidentified gunmen while campaigning in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area earlier this month. He suffered a critical gunshot wound to the head and was later flown abroad for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The killing sparked widespread unrest across several regions of Bangladesh, with protests, vandalism, and clashes reported in the days that followed. Security was tightened nationwide as tensions escalated.
