In a major political development in Pakistan, former Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to secure bail on June 11 in the high-profile Al-Qadir Trust case, according to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Gohar Ali Khan. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is set to hear petitions seeking the suspension of sentences handed to both Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the £190 million case that has gripped the nation.

Khan, 72, has been lodged in Adiala Jail since August 2023 and is facing several legal battles. The Al-Qadir Trust case involves allegations that funds repatriated by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) were misused by his government to benefit property tycoon Malik Riaz’s Bahria Town, instead of being deposited in Pakistan’s national treasury.

Bushra Bibi, a co-trustee of the trust, is also implicated. Gohar Ali Khan accused the authorities of detaining her without formal charges to exert pressure on Imran Khan. “No deal will be made. We are confident that the June 11 hearing will lead to justice,” Gohar said.

The IHC had previously delayed the hearings at the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which asked for more time to present its arguments. PTI leaders are calling the upcoming hearing a turning point for the party and its founder.

As legal proceedings continue, PTI is preparing for a nationwide protest campaign targeting the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government. Gohar revealed that the party will outline its protest strategy during a press conference on June 9, ahead of the presentation of the federal budget.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also warned that if Khan is not released by Eid Al-Adha, the party would launch a massive mobilisation effort. Gandapur echoed Khan’s repeated allegations of election fraud, branding the February 8 polls as “the Mother of All Rigging.” Khan continues to call his political opponents in the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) “mandate thieves.”
