In a strongly worded address marking Persian Gulf National Day, Iran’s top leadership figure Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei described the Persian Gulf as a central pillar of regional identity and global commerce, while sharply criticising Western military involvement in the area.
Khamenei referred to the Persian Gulf as a “divine blessing”, stressing its long-standing importance in shaping the region’s history and its continuing role as a vital corridor for international trade through strategic waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman.
He argued that external military presence, particularly from the United States, has been a key destabilising factor in the region. According to his remarks, such interventions have contributed to insecurity and heightened tensions across Gulf waters.
Reaffirming Iran’s historical position, he stated that the country has consistently resisted foreign pressure and will continue efforts to maintain security and stability in the Persian Gulf. He also suggested that the future of the region should be defined by regional cooperation and reduced dependence on outside powers, outlining a vision of a more independent Middle Eastern order.
