The latest exit poll by Today’s Chanakya has projected a major breakthrough for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the West Bengal Assembly elections, estimating that the party could secure a clear majority in the 294-member House.

According to the survey, the Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to win around 192 seats, putting it comfortably ahead in the race for power in West Bengal. The ruling All India Trinamool Congress is projected to bag nearly 100 seats, while the remaining two seats may go to smaller parties or independent candidates.

The projection was released shortly after the completion of the second phase of polling on April 29, offering one of the strongest forecasts yet in favour of the BJP.

If the prediction holds true when votes are counted, the result would mark a major political shift in West Bengal, where the All India Trinamool Congress has remained in power under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The exit poll numbers suggest a sharp rise in support for the BJP in the state, indicating that the opposition party may be on course to significantly expand its presence and challenge the Trinamool Congress in one of the country’s most closely watched elections.

With counting scheduled for May 4, political parties are now waiting to see whether the exit poll trends match the final verdict delivered by voters.
