Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's indirect accusation of him being an "experienced thief," suggesting that this remark indicates the PM has acknowledged the weakness of the excise policy case. Kejriwal called for the release of all individuals arrested in connection with the matter.
Kejriwal's comments were in response to an interview PM Modi gave to a television channel, where he implied that someone experienced in deceit, like an "experienced thief," has many ways to evade detection. This statement was perceived as a veiled jab at Kejriwal.
During the interview, when asked about Kejriwal's claim that central investigative agencies had not found any incriminating evidence or money in the so-called liquor scam case, PM Modi replied, "An experienced thief has many conveniences. A former government official who knows how ED and CBI will progress in a case can cover up a lot.”
In a video message on Friday, Kejriwal highlighted that the BJP has been alleging a ₹100 crore scam for two years but has failed to recover any money.
"They are screaming for two years that there is a liquor scam claiming it was to the tune of ₹100 crore, but not even a penny has been recovered," Kejriwal, who is out on interim bail till June 1, stated.
Kejriwal continued, "Yesterday, the PM was asked in an interview that Kejriwal was saying that no evidence has been found in the case. The PM said no money was found because Kejriwal is an experienced thief. He accepted that no recovery was made."
