Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a three-day visit to South Africa, participated in the G20 Summit in Johannesburg—an event that has made history as the first-ever G20 gathering hosted on the African continent. The Prime Minister’s schedule includes a series of high-level bilateral meetings with key world leaders, underscoring India’s growing global engagement.
Addressing the summit on Saturday, PM Modi presented a wide-ranging vision aimed at strengthening global cooperation and promoting inclusive development. He highlighted the need to preserve age-old wisdom and modernize global systems simultaneously. Sharing his proposals, the Prime Minister said on X, "I proposed a few actionables to realise our dream of all-round growth. First among them is the creation of a G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository. India has a rich history in this regard. This will help us pass on our collective wisdom to further good health and wellbeing."
He called for the establishment of a G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, which would serve as a collective platform for preserving and sharing indigenous practices across member nations.
In a major boost to Africa, PM Modi announced a G20–Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, with an ambitious goal of preparing one million certified trainers in Africa over the next ten years. The proposal aims to enhance capacity-building and support long-term human resource development across African nations.
Expanding on the need for strong health systems worldwide, India proposed a G20 Global Healthcare Response Team—a multinational pool of trained medical professionals ready for quick deployment during global emergencies.
PM Modi also urged the global community to act decisively against the growing threat of narcotics. In this context, he put forward the idea of a G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug–Terror Nexus, with specific concern over dangerous substances such as fentanyl that are fueling transnational crime networks.
