Maharashtra Elections 2024: Bitcoin Scam Allegations Spark Political Storm On Polling Day

na

Polling day in Maharashtra turned contentious as allegations of a "Bitcoin scam" rocked the political landscape. Former IPS officer Ravindra Patil accused Nationalist Congress Party leader Supriya Sule and Congress leader Nana Patole of using funds from the alleged scam to finance their election campaigns. The accusations, which include purported audio clips as evidence, have ignited an intense war of words between rival factions.

Supriya Sule categorically denied the allegations, calling them false and fabricated. Speaking to ANI, she said, "I have filed a defamation case and a criminal case. I am ready to answer his (Sudhanshu Trivedi) five questions wherever he wants?time, place, and platform of his choice. All the allegations are lies." Sule?s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny following the release of the audio clips, which Patil claims implicate her.

Adding to the controversy, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated that he recognized the voices in the clips, identifying them as Sule?s and Nana Patole?s. "Whatever audio clip is being shown, I know that I have worked with both of them. One is my sister (Supriya Sule), and the other is someone I have collaborated with a lot. From the tone, I can identify their voices. An inquiry will be conducted, and the truth will come before the people," Pawar said. Sule dismissed his statement with a cryptic remark, "He is Ajit Pawar, he can say anything. 'Ram Krishna Hari'."

Baramati, a significant battleground in this election, remains in the spotlight as Ajit Pawar contests against Yugendra Pawar of the Sharad Pawar faction. This family rivalry adds an emotional undertone to an already intense election. Baramati also drew national attention during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when Sunetra Pawar challenged Supriya Sule, who won by a margin of 1.5 lakh votes.

To ensure a peaceful election, Mumbai Police deployed over 25,000 personnel, including riot-control teams and home guards. The elections have been marked by sharp ideological divides, shifting alliances, and emotional appeals, with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance facing off against the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi.

As Maharashtra votes, the allegations and controversies surrounding the Bitcoin scam add another layer of complexity to the state?s fiercely contested political battle. The Election Commission is under pressure to address these claims and ensure electoral integrity.
