Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a unique initiative to honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday: the development of “Namo Udyan” (Namo Gardens) in all municipal councils and nagar panchayats across the state. Each garden will receive a dedicated fund of ₹1 crore, benefiting a total of 394 urban bodies.
“This is Maharashtra’s special gift to Prime Minister Modi on his birthday,” Shinde said while unveiling the scheme.
To encourage creativity and excellence, the state government will organize divisional-level competitions among the newly developed gardens. Winners will receive:
-
₹5 crore for first place
-
₹3 crore for second place
-
₹1 crore for third place
Deputy CM Shinde highlighted that the “Namo Udyan” initiative aims to beautify urban spaces while promoting environmental sustainability, community engagement, and citizens’ well-being. The gardens are expected to provide green spaces for relaxation, recreation, and improved urban health, marking a significant step toward greener and more vibrant cities in Maharashtra.
