During a recent meeting with Muslim clerics, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed to the opposition alliance INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) to stay united in their fight against the central government’s policies, particularly the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
“I will appeal to the INDIA alliance, let us stay united, let us fight together courageously. This is not a personal matter, it will affect everyone. Today, it is happening against you, tomorrow, it will be against someone else,” Banerjee said, stressing the broader impact of these measures.
Addressing concerns over the UCC, Banerjee also criticized the government's stance on Muslims, highlighting a perceived contradiction. “Now they want to bring UCC... You are against Muslims, but in Saudi Arabia you meet Muslims... If you go to Dubai, UAE, whose hospitality do you take there... You say one thing in your country and another thing outside,” she remarked.
