Senior Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Azam Pansare has sparked fresh political debate by openly suggesting the possibility of an alliance between the two rival NCP factions—one led by Sharad Pawar and the other by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar—ahead of upcoming elections in Maharashtra.

Azam Pansare, a prominent leader from the NCP (SP) camp and known for his long association with the Pawar family, revealed that Ajit Pawar recently met him after a long interval. The meeting, according to Pansare, focused on broader political and organisational issues, with a clear undercurrent of reconciliation.

“We discussed general political matters and the current situation in Maharashtra. There is a desire for an alliance between NCP (Sharad Pawar) and NCP,” Pansare said, indicating that the talks were not casual but politically significant.

Importantly, Pansare clarified that the discussions are linked to future electoral strategy, particularly with civic body polls and the next round of Assembly elections in mind. He added that Ajit Pawar assured him a decision on unity or alliance would be taken soon, suggesting that deliberations are happening at senior leadership levels.
