Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane on Thursday raised questions about the reported stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, sparking controversy with his remarks. Rane questioned the authenticity of the attack, asking, “Was Saif Ali Khan really stabbed or just acting?” His comments came after many expressed surprise at the actor’s swift discharge from Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
The incident took place last week at Saif’s Bandra residence when an intruder, identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, allegedly broke into the actor’s home with the intent of theft. During the confrontation, Saif sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine while trying to intervene. The auto-rickshaw driver who transported Saif to the hospital recounted the incident, commending the actor for his courage and quick response during the dangerous altercation.
Following treatment at Lilavati Hospital, Saif was discharged earlier this week. Upon returning home, the actor greeted the media with a smile and wave, which raised doubts among some about the severity of his injuries. His wife, Kareena Kapoor, and sister, Karisma Kapoor, were present at the residence, offering support during the difficult time.
In response to the attack, security at Saif’s Bandra home has been significantly strengthened. CCTV cameras have been installed, and additional security personnel have been stationed outside his residence to ensure his family’s safety. The heightened security measures reflect the growing concern for celebrity safety in Mumbai, especially in light of similar incidents in the past.
Minister Rane’s remarks also stirred a political debate, as he accused leaders like Supriya Sule and Jeetendra Awad of ignoring Hindu artists and selectively raising issues. The actor has not publicly responded to Rane’s statements.
The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into the motive behind the intrusion and the exact sequence of events that led to the violent confrontation.
