Ramchet, a 60-year-old cobbler from Sultanpur, who met Rahul Gandhi during the latter’s visit to Uttar Pradesh last year, finally got his long-awaited meeting with the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. As a mark of gratitude for the hospitality he received in Sultanpur, Gandhi invited Ramchet and his family to his residence in Delhi, arranging for their travel, stay, and meals.
Upon their arrival, a car picked up Ramchet, his son, grandson, daughter, and son-in-law, taking them straight to Gandhi’s home. The Congress leader welcomed him with a warm hug, and soon after, Priyanka Gandhi joined them. Later, Sonia Gandhi also participated in the conversation, making the meeting even more special for the humble cobbler.

During their discussion, Rahul Gandhi inquired about Ramchet’s business and skills, acknowledging the craftsmanship of the cobbler community. The Sultanpur cobbler, who now owns two shops, credited much of his success to the encouragement he received from Gandhi.
As a gesture of appreciation, Ramchet gifted handmade slippers to Rahul, Priyanka, and Sonia Gandhi, receiving their blessings in return. Priyanka Gandhi even remarked that the finest shoes in the world are handmade, reinforcing the value of traditional craftsmanship.
Rahul Gandhi went a step further by offering to train Ramchet’s son in Delhi to refine his skills and create high-quality shoes for the international market. "Your skills need some polishing, and I will help you with that," Gandhi assured him.
Ramchet expressed deep gratitude for the leader’s continued support, emphasizing that cobblers often do not receive the respect they deserve in society. The meeting, filled with warmth and promises of progress, left Ramchet and his family inspired for a better future.
