In a heart-wrenching incident, three people lost their lives due to suffocation caused by generator smoke in Bhatha village on the outskirts of Surat late Thursday night. The victims, identified as one man and two women, reportedly left a generator running inside a closed room, which led to the accumulation of toxic fumes and ultimately proved fatal.
According to early reports, the generator had been switched on following a local power outage. However, due to poor ventilation, the room quickly filled with carbon monoxide, leading to the tragic deaths.
Local residents, sensing something unusual, alerted authorities after noticing that the trio had not emerged from the room for several hours. Police and emergency services rushed to the spot. Upon arrival, the first response team immediately turned off the generator and broke into the room, only to find all three victims unconscious.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival. Police have since sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations, after which they will be handed over to the respective families for last rites.
