Actor-politician Vijay has gained significant momentum in the race to form the next government in Tamil Nadu after Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi extended support to his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
The latest political development has brought TVK within touching distance of the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly, dramatically reshaping the post-election power struggle in the state.
Support from Former DMK Allies Changes Political Equation
Following days of uncertainty and negotiations, parties that were once aligned with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have now moved closer to Vijay’s camp. Leaders from the Left bloc and VCK reportedly conveyed their support to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar after holding internal consultations on the evolving political situation.
The support is considered politically significant because TVK had emerged as the single-largest party in the Assembly elections but remained short of the numbers required to independently form the government.
TVK’s Rapid Rise Reshapes Tamil Nadu Politics
Vijay’s entry into active politics has transformed the state’s political landscape within a short period. TVK’s strong electoral performance disrupted the decades-long dominance of the DMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, positioning the actor-turned-politician as a central figure in the state’s new power equation.
Political observers say the backing from smaller parties could now give Vijay the legislative strength needed to formally stake claim to power before the Governor.
Left Leaders Signal Readiness to Back Vijay
Senior Left leaders publicly indicated that efforts were underway to ensure stability in the Assembly and help TVK demonstrate majority support. Speaking in Delhi, M. A. Baby stated that discussions among allied parties were focused on enabling the formation of a government backed by a working majority.
The Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist), along with VCK, are now being viewed as key players in determining the final shape of the new government.
