The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is set to be tabled in Parliament on Wednesday, with both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress issuing whips to their MPs, ensuring full attendance during the discussion.
The bill will be introduced after the Question Hour, followed by a crucial eight-hour debate, which may be extended depending on parliamentary proceedings. The ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition's INDIA bloc have yet to find common ground, making the outcome dependent on majority votes.
In addition to the BJP and Congress, their respective allies have also issued a whip, mandating the presence of MPs in Parliament on April 2 and 3. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has also joined the Opposition's stance, with SP chief whip Dharmendra Yadav issuing a three-line whip to all its Lok Sabha MPs to be present and actively participate in the debate.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill has sparked intense political debate, with the Opposition strongly criticizing the proposed changes. The bill's passage is expected to witness a heated exchange of arguments, as both sides remain firm on their stance.
