Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the BJP headquarters in the national capital amid thunderous applause and celebrations by party workers soon after the ruling NDA secured an unprecedented third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

Modi was welcomed by BJP president JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh among other top leaders.

In his first remarks to workers, the PM termed the NDA's hat-trick win as a "historical feat in India's history" and expressed gratitude to the people for reposing their faith in the alliance repeatedly.

"People have placed their faith in NDA, for a third consecutive time! This is a historical feat. I bow to the Janata Janardan for this affection and assure them that we will continue the good work done in the last decade to keep fulfilling the aspirations of people," Modi said.

The Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of BJP's foot soldiers whose hard work made this massive victory possible.

"I also salute all our Karyakartas for their hard work. Words will never do justice to their exceptional efforts," he stated.

Modi's address to the cheering crowd came soon after trends from the Election Commission confirmed that the NDA had comfortably crossed the majority mark of 272 seats required to form government at the Centre.

The BJP itself is projected to win over 220 seats emerging as the single largest party once again, while allies like JD(U) in Bihar and Apna Dal in Uttar Pradesh have also put up a strong show.

The NDA's historic third straight term has cemented Modi's place in India's political history, making him the first Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to achieve this rare feat amid intense Opposition efforts to dislodge him.

The massive mandate has come on the back of the BJP's core plank of robust nationalism, strong leadership and unwavering focus on welfarist policies targeted at the poor and marginalized sections.
