In a dramatic turn of events, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Minister Atishi announced on Wednesday that she will resort to a 'Satyagraha' if Delhi does not receive its rightful share of water by June 21. This ultimatum comes amidst a political tug-of-war over the worsening water crisis in the national capital.

"Today I have written a letter to the Prime Minister saying that 28 lakh people in Delhi are not getting water. I have requested that he should help provide water as soon as possible? If the people of Delhi do not get their rightful share of water by the 21st, then I will be forced to do a Satyagraha," Atishi declared during a press conference.

Atishi highlighted the escalating water problem in Delhi, exacerbated by the scorching summer heat. She pointed out that while the total water supply in Delhi is 1050 MGD (million gallons per day), only 613 MGD comes from Haryana, which she alleges is not providing the full share.

"Haryana gave only 513 MGD of water to Delhi yesterday. Due to this, Delhi is short of 100 MGD of water today. About 28 lakh people are getting less water. The people of Delhi are troubled. We have made all efforts to solve this problem. We have spoken to the Chief Minister of Haryana, but the BJP government of Haryana is not giving Delhi its share of water," she added.

The AAP minister's remarks intensified the ongoing political standoff between Delhi and Haryana, with Atishi accusing the BJP-led Haryana government of failing to meet its water obligations to Delhi. She emphasized that the water shortage has left 28 lakh residents in Delhi struggling for access to adequate water supply.

Earlier on June 18, a high-level delegation of Delhi government officials met with the Principal Secretary (Water Resources) of the Haryana Government. The Delhi Government solicited an additional release of water to Delhi from the Haryana government. This meeting took place in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
