'Why Are We Not Addressing This?': Ashok Gehlot Slams PM Modi Over Trump’s Kashmir Mediation Remarks

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has raised strong objections to former US President Donald Trump’s renewed interest in mediating on the Kashmir issue. Gehlot questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence and urged the government to clarify its position on foreign involvement in what India considers a strictly bilateral matter.

“The Shimla Accord has also been achieved, and we will talk between the two parties, the third party will not be involved. Right now, Trump is appearing in the picture, but it's unclear whether his concerns are aligned with the government's or if they are coming from his own perspective,” Gehlot said while speaking to reporters.

He added, “The Prime Minister should clarify to the nation what the state's response is to the terms they are discussing today. Why should we listen to this? Why are we not addressing it?”

Gehlot’s remarks underscore a growing concern within the opposition about the lack of clarity from the Centre on international discussions around Kashmir. He referred to the 1972 Shimla Accord between India and Pakistan, which clearly stated that all disputes would be resolved bilaterally, without third-party intervention.

While Trump has made similar claims in the past, they were firmly rejected by the Indian government, which maintained that Kashmir is an internal issue.
