AI Summit Protest: Court Sends Youth Congress Workers To 5-Day Police Custody, Bail Denied

na

A day after a dramatic disruption at the India AI Summit 2026 in the national capital, the Patiala House Court on Saturday sent four Indian Youth Congress workers arrested in the case to five days of police custody, turning down their plea for immediate bail. The court agreed with the prosecution that further investigation was required, especially given the nature of the incident and the security implications involved.

The incident took place on Friday at Bharat Mandapam, where the accused allegedly staged a protest inside the summit venue, briefly disturbing proceedings at the high-profile international event. The summit was attended by foreign delegates, technology leaders and senior government officials, prompting security agencies to treat the breach with seriousness.

During the hearing, Delhi Police argued that the protest was not spontaneous and appeared to have been planned in advance. Investigators told the court that custodial interrogation was necessary to question the accused about their coordination, communication methods and the role of others who may have been involved but managed to escape from the spot.

The defence, however, maintained that the accused were exercising their democratic right to protest and insisted that the demonstration was peaceful. The defence also sought bail, arguing that continued custody was unwarranted. The court, after hearing both sides, rejected the bail applications and granted police custody for five days.
