'Delhi Feels Like A Gas Chamber': Yogi Adityanath Says Uttar Pradesh Residents Breathe Cleaner Air

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday drew a sharp comparison between air conditions in the national capital and his state, remarking, “Delhi feels like a gas chamber,” while asserting that Uttar Pradesh has maintained cleaner air alongside rapid infrastructure growth.

Speaking at a public function in Gorakhpur, where he inaugurated a revamped Block Development Officer’s office in Jungle Kauria, Adityanath highlighted environmental protection as a central component of his government’s development agenda. He stressed that economic expansion should not come at the cost of public health.

“The environment here is clean and balanced. When pollution rises, health complications follow. If oxygen supply is affected, the whole body suffers,” he said, adding that Uttar Pradesh has worked to prevent such a scenario even while accelerating projects across sectors.

Turning his focus to the national capital, the Chief Minister painted a grim picture without directly naming political opponents. “In Delhi, breathing itself becomes uncomfortable. There is irritation in the eyes, and vulnerable groups are often told to stay indoors. That is not a healthy way to live,” he stated.

Data from the Central Pollution Control Board indicated that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 211 on Saturday morning, placing it in the “poor” category. As per official standards, AQI levels between 201 and 300 may pose health risks, particularly for children, senior citizens and those with respiratory ailments.
