The Madhya Pradesh government has stepped up action in the Indore contaminated drinking water case, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordering disciplinary proceedings against top municipal officials as public anger mounts over the tragedy.
On Friday, the Chief Minister directed that show-cause notices be issued to the Indore Municipal Corporation Commissioner and the Additional Commissioner over their handling of the water supply system. In a decisive move, he also ordered the immediate removal of the Additional Commissioner from Indore and withdrew responsibility of the Water Distribution Works Department from the in-charge Superintending Engineer.

Taking to social media, Mohan Yadav said the government was treating the incident with utmost seriousness. He stated that after reviewing the situation with senior administrative officials, strict measures had been initiated to fix responsibility and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The administrative action comes as the situation in Bhagirathpura and surrounding localities remains tense. With fatalities linked to contaminated water continuing to increase, security has been tightened around the Indore Municipal Corporation office to prevent unrest, reflecting the growing anger among residents.
Families in the affected areas are struggling to cope with their losses, as the contaminated Narmada water supply has turned a daily necessity into a deadly threat. Residents have reported that tap water emitted a foul smell and appeared visibly dirty, triggering widespread cases of vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration. Several patients, particularly elderly citizens, succumbed while undergoing treatment.
