In a fresh round of remarks that stirred global attention, former US President Donald Trump said on Friday (local time) that he “loves solving wars,” but alleged that Pakistan was behind the recent attack on Afghanistan. The 79-year-old Republican leader made the statement while addressing reporters at the White House, amid escalating tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.
“Although I do understand that Pakistan attacked, or there is an attack going on with Afghanistan. That's an easy one for me to solve if I have to solve it. In the meantime, I have to run the USA,” Trump said. “But I love solving wars. You know why? I like stopping people from being killed, and I've saved millions and millions of lives,” he added.
Trump claimed that if he mediated the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, it would mark the ninth war he has helped resolve. He, however, emphasized that his priority remains managing the United States.
Tensions between the two neighbouring countries have intensified following Pakistan’s recent airstrike on Kabul, targeting what it claimed were Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts. Afghanistan, under the Taliban-led government, denied harbouring TTP militants and retaliated by capturing several Pakistani military outposts along the Durand Line, reportedly killing multiple soldiers.
In response, Islamabad called for a 48-hour ceasefire earlier this week, which expired on Friday. Following the truce’s end, Pakistan launched fresh attacks on Afghan territory, killing eight people, including three Afghan cricketers. The escalating violence prompted the Afghanistan Cricket Board to cancel an upcoming tri-nation series involving Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Trump reiterated his previous claim of resolving a four-day standoff between Pakistan and India, asserting that his diplomatic efforts had prevented further escalation. India, however, has consistently maintained that no third-party mediation took place between New Delhi and Islamabad.
Expressing frustration over not receiving the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize—awarded this year to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado—Trump remarked, “I solved eight wars. Go to Rwanda and the Congo, talk about India and Pakistan. Look at all of the wars that we solved, and every time I solved, they said, ‘If you solve the next one, you're gonna get the Nobel Prize.’”
“I didn’t get a Nobel Prize. Somebody got it who is a very nice woman. I don’t know who she is, but she was very generous. I don’t care about all that stuff. I just care about saving lives,” Trump concluded.
