No Nationwide Fuel Crisis, Says IOC Amid Panic Buying Concerns

State-run oil giant Indian Oil Corporation has dismissed fears of a nationwide fuel shortage, assuring consumers that petrol and diesel supplies across India remain stable despite growing tensions in West Asia and disruptions in global crude markets.
The clarification came after temporary shortages were reported at a few petrol pumps in several regions, triggering panic buying among motorists worried about possible supply disruptions linked to the ongoing geopolitical crisis around the Strait of Hormuz.
IOC said the situation at retail outlets remains under control and described the disruptions as isolated and short-term issues caused mainly by sudden spikes in demand and local transportation delays. The company maintained that its refineries, distribution systems and supply chains are functioning normally.
In an official statement, the oil major said fuel stocks are sufficient and there is no reason for consumers to rush to petrol pumps or engage in unnecessary hoarding. Officials added that coordinated efforts with distributors and transport operators are underway to ensure uninterrupted fuel delivery across all states.
The reassurance comes at a time when concerns over global oil supplies have intensified due to instability in West Asia, a region from which India imports a major share of its crude oil requirements. Rising crude prices and fears of shipping disruptions through key maritime routes had sparked anxiety among consumers in some cities.
Authorities said India’s strategic petroleum reserves and diversified crude sourcing network are helping cushion the impact of global volatility. Oil marketing companies and government agencies are also closely monitoring supply conditions and preparing contingency measures to prevent any large-scale disruption.
IOC urged citizens to avoid panic buying, warning that excessive purchasing at local pumps could create avoidable pressure on supply networks even when national stock levels remain adequate.
