“Naxalism Taking Its Last Breath!” – Amit Shah Blames Congress, Credits Modi Govt For Crackdown

In a strong political statement in Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that Naxalism in India is “on its last breath,” while launching a sharp attack on the Congress party for its alleged role in spreading Maoist ideology.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a debate on India’s fight against Naxalism, Shah claimed that the root cause of the movement was not lack of development but an ideology encouraged during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Blames Congress for Spread of Maoism

Shah alleged that Maoism spread across 12 states, including Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Odisha, due to political decisions taken decades ago.

He said the ideology was used to gain power and was propagated among tribal communities, leading to violence that claimed thousands of lives.

According to Shah, Naxalism is not linked to development issues but is driven by armed struggle aimed at capturing power.

“Bastar Now on Path of Development”

Highlighting progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said regions like Bastar, once heavily affected by Naxalism, are now witnessing development.

“The shadow of red terror has lifted, and Bastar is now moving towards growth,” he said, adding that earlier, development could not reach such areas due to violence and instability.

Strong Warning to Naxalites

The Home Minister made it clear that the government will not tolerate armed rebellion.

He said the Constitution provides ways to address grievances, but taking up arms is not acceptable. “Those who pick up weapons will have to pay a price,” Shah warned.

Reiterating the government’s stance, he said talks will only be held with those who surrender, while those using violence will face strict action.

Targets Opposition Over Comparisons

Shah also criticised opposition leaders for allegedly comparing Naxalites with freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Birsa Munda.

He said such comparisons are unacceptable, as Naxalites have been involved in violence against innocent civilians, including women and children.

Credits Forces and Tribals

Shah credited the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and local tribal communities for the decline of Naxalism.

He said sustained efforts over the past decade have significantly weakened the movement and restored peace in affected regions.
